What the agent actually does

A working competitive intelligence agent does four things in sequence: collects, filters, summarises, and delivers.
Collect means pulling from sources on a schedule. Start with one or two direct competitors, not ten. A weekly briefing covering ten companies produces a wall of text that gets ignored. A briefing covering two competitors with interpreted signals gets discussed in standups.
After four to six weeks, review what the agent flagged versus what actually turned out to be significant. Adjust the filter prompt based on what it missed or over-reported. This tuning step is where most teams give up, but it takes twenty minutes and dramatically improves signal quality.
Add sources incrementally. Once news and jobs are running cleanly, add the competitor's blog RSS and their Glassdoor reviews.
